Ouni Korean Eyelash Extension Course

Look! Now I am a certified Eyelash Extension Stylist! :D

All thanks to Ouni Korean Beauty & Skincare for inviting me over to attend their Korean Eyelash Extension course!

The course is being held at Paya Lebar Square so its really convenient and accessible by public transport. Its a 1 Day course from 9am to 6pm. The course is conducted by Miss Yumi, she has a very strong background of Korean beauty as a internationally Beauty Trainer and Consultant for many years. Despite of being a true blue Korean, Miss Yumi is able to speak Mandarin and English fluently so communication is definitely not an issue. What I like about Miss Yumi is that she very friendly and keeps her lesson casual enough for everyone to feel comfortable to raise out any questions or approach her for any help.

All the tools are being provided and everything can be brought back home to do further practices.

Everything that we need to know about Korean eyelash extension will be covered by Miss Yumi during the course. Things like what type of extensions will compliment which type of eye shape or what are the various types of lashes in the market. All these are really insightful for someone like me who has almost zero knowledge.

Next Miss Yumi will do demo to show us how it should be correctly done step by step.

And here's the exciting part! We are free to do any kind of lash designs with the guidance of Miss Yumi. She will go to each student form time to time and guide us along.

After evaluating that we are good to move onto next stage, Miss Yumi will do a live demo to show us how to serve a customer step by step to ensure the customer's eyelashes is well taken care of and look pretty at the end of the session.

Here's my live model Bennice who is a super great classmate and is willing to be my first customer!

Before and after eyelash extension

Finally done with both eyes after a good 2.5hours! Poor Bennice who has been lying patiently for me to complete her eyelashes!

Here's a side profile of her new eyelash extension done by me!

Thank you Bennice, hope you like the lashes!

Ending off with a photo of Miss Yumi and me! :)
Definitely had a great time attending the course. Everyone in the class is really nice and friendly.

Apart from Eyelash Extension, Ouni also provides:
- Semi Permanent Make Up (5 Days Course)
- Korean Skincare (1 Day Course)

You can find out all the details of the various courses HERE
You can also contact evelyn@ouni.kr or 9710 6096 to register or for further enquiry!

PostPartum Depression (PPD)

| on
Monday, June 12, 2017

I am writing on this as a personal experience and definitely not a professional or expert view.

PostPartum Depression is very a real thing and common that happens to a lot of mummies. However, not many mummies speak of it and many of them suffer in silence. Every PDD is different but definitely all needs the supports from their husbands, families and friends.

I suffered from depression since late pregnancy but it was pretty mild I guess. I think my depression was mainly due to low self-esteem. During the late  pregnancy, I have gained about 20kg. Some people began calling me fat, auntie or some unpleasant names. I know that some of them made the remarks thinking that they are funny but they did not realise it hurt my feelings. Its never funny to call a pregnant woman "Fat", "Auntie", "Ugly"or any kind of negative remarks. Pregnant women are very fragile emotionally with all the hormones acting up and have a hard time dealing with all the various pregnant conditions. We already feel very self-conscious on our body changes and trying very hard to make peace with it. So dear outsiders, please be kind to pregnant women as one day you or your close ones will be pregnant as well and going thru the same shit.

Anyway back to PDD. It was only after I gave birth to Nat, it became really bad. On the outside, I looked perfectly fine and seemed to be coping well as a new mummy. But whenever I was left alone with Nat during the first 2 months, I would carry him and cry. I felt detached with Nat like when I was carrying him, I didn't feel the overwhelming love. I didn't feel connected with him like a mother and baby. (I googled and realised its very common for mummies to feel detachment during the initial stage) I felt unworthy as a mother and I wished I could do better so that I would not burden anyone like Collin, my mum, my MIL or just anyone. I had really bad insomnia every night even though I was dead tired, I still couldn't sleep and would cry for no reason. It's always during late at night, the worst thoughts would creeped into my mind. I began to have suicidal thoughts. I would think how the world would be a better place without me, how Nat would have a wonderful life without a mother like me, how Collin would have a easier life without a wife like me burdening him and how my mum would still have Nat to company her even when I'm no longer around. Everyone would seems to be able to have a greater life without me. Everyone has been trying their best to help me with the postpartum and Nat but I just felt that I don't deserve any of them and all I do is to burden them. I felt like I really hated my life and I could never be happy again. A part of me knows that all these negative thoughts are not true, its just the PDD bringing the worst out of me.

Also, everyone has been promoting breastfeeding so much that it has put a lot of pressure on me. As a new mummy, I have problems with keeping up my milk supply for Nat's intake. Whenever I see anyone or visit the doctor, the first question would be "Am I still breastfeeding?". And when I replied that I'm actually doing mix feeding, they'll start questioning me. I felt somehow I'm being judged as not a good enough mummy as I don't produce enough BM for Nat. I started blaming myself for being such a lousy mummy and have to put Nat on mix feeding instead of being on full BF which he should deserves. I understand there are a lot of benefits in BM but it is really putting a lot of pressures on mummies who can't produce that much. I feel mummy should all be comfortable to provide whatever they deem as the best for their babies and not be judged by their choices.

On top of it, people still continued making unpleasant remarks about my body changes. It made me feel even more insecure about my own body and adding onto my PDD. I felt as though I could never ever return back to the body I used to have and I hated my postpartum body. The ugly stretch marks, the swollen limbs and the flabby tummy. I hated what I see in the mirror everyday.

I did not dare to speak up to anyone, fearing that my PDD conditions would worry them. I guess a bigger reason was because I didn't know how to tell them. Its like "Hey I think I've got PDD and having suicide thoughts" is definitely not the best conversation topic. What would they think? What would their reactions be? Would I be burdening them even more? All sorts of scenarios and questions I have planned out in my mind kinda stopped me from speaking up...

After a long period of suffering PDD in silence, I finally could not handle all the negative thoughts and energy any longer. Its like PDD was slowly consuming my mind. I decided to talk to Collin about my PDD conditions. I personally feel that its certainly the best decision I've made to help myself. Collin took it very well, he calmed me down and shared with me his thoughts. He shared with me that he's also getting used to be a new daddy, going thru the parenthood with me plus he still has work to worry about. Sometimes everything gets too overwhelmed for him as well but he has never thought of giving up because he knows he has a family now. He tried to clear my negative thoughts away and kept giving me assurance that all these were just a passing phrase which I'll get better soon so long as I keep talk to him about it or even consult a professional. Most importantly, he made me feel that I am never alone going thru all these. He also recommended to get a professional help for me but I wanted to try to recover on my own. Collin respects my decision but he still kept a close watch on me. He would make it an effort to spend all of his time with me, rush home everyday after his work and have a lot of chats with me to make sure I'm recovering slowly. After close to 2months, I slowly felt better again and those negative thoughts slowly got away as well. Currently, I am perfectly well and happy again without any negative thoughts. I think its talking to Collin which makes me recover because he makes me feel like I'm never alone to deal with anything and he's always by me side going thru everything with me.

From my very own experience, it is very important to open up your PDD conditions to someone who you can trust or consult a professional. It's never the end of the world. It can be cured and one day, you'll feel all happy again. :)

I would be more than happy if any mummies would love to reach out to me and share with me your experiences or issues! Just contact me at sheylathl@gmail.com! :)

Haenim 7S Bluetooth Breastpump

| on
Saturday, March 25, 2017
I am so thrilled to receive Haenim 7S Bluetooth Breastpump from TLO.com.sg!

As a exclusive pumping mum, it is really important for me to get a suitable pump that is comfortable enough during pumping and portable enough to travel around with. This Haenim 7S Bluetooth Breastpump definitely fits the bill for me!

What I love about the Haenim 7S Bluetooth Breastpump:

 - Comes with 3 funnel sizes (24mm, 28mm & 32mm) which allows me to choose the best fit. You know how other brands only provide 1 funnel size and if it doesn't fit, we have to purchase another funnel size which is an additional cost.

- Closed pump system with backflow prevention. I personally feel that this is really important as it saves my precious breastmilk and keeps everything hygienic.

- 3 way connector to give me the flexibility of single or double pumping. Most of the time, I'll do double pumping as it is less time consuming. However during the days which I feel my milk output is lower, I'll focus on hands-on single side pumping to achieve higher milk output.

- 9 levels of Expression and Massage mode. At the start, I'll go for Massage mode level 1 then slowly increase all the way to level 4 for about 5min. After which when my milk flow is a lot smoother, I'll change it to Expression mode and I'll start with level 1 then work all the way up to level 5 slowly. I personally feel that the Massage mode's rhythm definitely helps me to stimulate more milk and the Expression mode's suction is not way too strong that it'll cause my nipple to bleed or so. Most importantly it is able to help me clear my engorged breasts well enough!

- Having a low pumping noise level is definitely another plus point. I do my night pumping in the same room where Nat and Collin are sleeping in, so I need a low pumping noise level pump in order to not wake them up from their sleeps. Collin and Nat sleeping very soundly while I do my pumping.

- Smart Bluetooth function that is really handy for forgetful mums like me! It helps me to keep track of my milk output and alert me when its time for my next pump. Being able to control my pump from my phone, I can just happily surf the net or watch dramas and adjust my pump modes or levels conveniently as and when thru my phone.

- Comes with Breast Shield Covers which helps to keep the pumps clean and stay sterilized. Previously before I have Haenim 7S Bluetooth Breastpump, I'll always have to keep my other pumps in ziplock bags to store them instead. Also, the Breast Shield Covers can be used as a bottle support to prevent me from accidentally spilling my milk. I always do my pumping on my bed and risk having my milk bottles toppling over. But with the bottle support, it reduces my risk of toppling my milk bottles and waste my precious milk.

- Comes with silicon pad. This is a such a darling for me! It really makes my breasts feel so much more comfortable during pumping. It is really soft as well so my breasts would not feel so uncomfortable against the funnels.

My overall experience with Haenim 7S Bluetooth Breastpump has been great! It is portable, comfortable, functional and smart!

GREAT NEWS!!!

Twelvelittle Companion Backpack Review

| on
Thursday, February 09, 2017
Bringing a baby out is like going to war literally with all the baby essentials to bring around plus handling a baby. So this extremely important to have the equipments to win the war (opps! I mean bring the baby out). To better prep myself for the war, I'm so blessed to received Twelvelittle Companion Backpack Black from Caden&Charles! This backpack is a such life saver for both Collin and me. First of all, we love the design of this backpack because its simple&sleek looking, plus its suitable for both mummy or daddy to carry around. It goes so well with any outfits! This is definitely a darling for mummies&daddies who are not into fanciful/girly/complicated designs.

Being new parents, we are on the kiasu side. We tend to bring a lot of extra sets for everything when we are out so to ensure that we are well covered for any unforeseen circumstances. Hence we always bring tonnes of diapers, huge packs of wipes, 3sets of baby clothing, 4-5 handkerchiefs, 4-5 milk bottles, 2bottles of water (1 hot 1 cold), milk powder, changing mat, body powder, loads of tissues and 2 pacifiers. All these are just the baby items, not including my wallet, portable charger and handphone.

With so many things that I need to bring out, I'll need to squeeze everything into one single bag so it's more convenient for us to move around easily. So can you imagine how functional the bag has to be!? Miraculously Twelvelittle Companion Backpack is able to fit every single item into it which totally save us so much hassles! Even after fitting all of my items in, there's still plenty of space left!

Twelvelittle Companion Backpack is super lightweight which is a BIG plus point! With so many things inside the bag, the bag is still not very heavy for me to carry around all day. And also it's made with soft lightweight water-resistant nylon so I don't have to worry about the bag getting wet. Its also almost effortless to maintain the bag with just wet cloth to wipe stains away for easy spot cleaning.

It has super spacious main compartment and multiple internal/external pockets to make everything as organized as possible. Having all items organized is really crucial in times of emergencies. When Nat suddenly throws up milk, I can take out my handkerchief quickly as it's easily accessible rather than having to dig my bag to find the handkerchief. Just the pockets alone, it has a total of 8 pockets excluding the side bottle pockets. It is totally so functional as a diaper bag!

It has 2 insulated side bottle pockets to keep my bottles warm for Nat's milk.

There is also a secret compartment at the back of the backpack! It can be used to put important stuff while traveling to prevent pickpocket! Or it can be used to put dirty diaper or clothes.
So thoughtful of the bag designer!

It also comes with a super comfy changing mat! The print is also super duper cute! It is also the print of inner lining. The print is actually the 12 Zodiac animals. They are not too fancy or girly for Collin to use and for baby boy to lie on them. The changing mat has light padding and water resistant.

All in all, both Collin and me are so in love with this Twelvelittle Companion Backpack. It is absolutely functional and great design for both daddies&mummies. We are so tempted to get more of the Twelvelittle diaper bags so we can mix and match around!

GREAT NEWS!!!
Twelvelittle Diaper Bags is having 45% off for their full range at Supermom Baby Fair happening on 17th-19th Feb at MBS! They are located at booth K12! So drop by, grab and pay the bag before they are all sold out!

Shrinkx Belly & Hips Ultra

| on
Friday, December 30, 2016

When I was about to due, I asked around in mummies fb groups and forums about recommendations on postpartum belts but there weren't much responses because many mummies do not use postpartum belts. I'm so glad that My Miracle Baby SG reached out to me and offered me Shrinkx Belly and Hips Ultra to try out.

I personally love the Shrinkx Belly! Because I can really see a significant shrink in my belly and waist after constantly wearing it for 3weeks. I started wearing it from day 3 after I was discharged and my body felt more comfortable. It doesn't feel too warm to wear it daily in Singapore's super humid and hot weather. I can wear it and moving around comfortably as the material is very soft.
Usually, I will put my trusty Bio-Oil on my belly before wearing it. I personally feel that putting slimming or firming cream would help to have more significant result. Unfortunately, I did not prepare any slimming or firming cream and I could not leave house to shop during confinement, so I have to make do with my Bio-Oil.
The front of the Shrinkx belly.
It has additional 2 compressions from each side to further tighten the belly and waist. Also, I can adjust the straps to the areas which I would like to focus on.

The back of it has built in boning to provide better support for my lower back and improve my posture.

Like most mummies, I am worried about my hips after giving birth and its one of the areas which is most difficult to slim down. It helps to narrow my hips by guiding it back to pre-pregnancy position. I started wearing this about 5days later than Shrinkx Belly as my wound was feeling pretty bad and I only feel comfortable enough to have Shrinkx Hips around my hips.

Similar to the Shrinkx Belly, it has 2 additional compression straps on each side so I can adjust the amount of compression.

After 3 weeks of wearing both the Shrinkx Belly and Hips Ultra, I no longer need to wear them as I have reached the maximum.

Postnatal Massage With The Outcall Spa

| on
Thursday, December 22, 2016
As mentioned previously from my Prenatal Massage with The Outcall Spa post, I am so in love with The Outcall Spa (www.theoutcallspa.com) so I have continued with them for my postnatal massage as well.

Its definitely not easy dealing with all the postnatal symptoms and overwhelming chores. Lucky for me, I have The Outcall Spa to help out with my flabby tummy, water retention body and aching arms/back.

What I really love about them is that I do not need to leave my house during my confinement period to enjoy the massages. We all know during confinement period, mummies ain't allowed to leave home due to some traditions. Imagine those mummies who stay with their In-laws were to go out during confinement period just for massage, I think those mummies would get into troubles with their In-laws who follow the confinement traditions strictly. But most importantly, I can attend to Nat who is just a room away from me if he needs me.

My postnatal massage package was completed by two masseurs, Cynthia and Flora. To be honest, I can decide I prefer which masseur more because both masseurs are really nice and equally good in their own ways. My first 3 sessions was done by Cynthia who is focuses more on the aching points on my shoulders and back. She is really good at easing all the tight knots and it feels shiok rather than pain. After each sessions, my aches seems to be better. My last 2 sessions was done by Flora. Her style is more of gentle and comfortable strokes yet still able to take the body aches away. Flora's style is more of a relaxing way of getting away the aches away as compared to Cynthia's style of pressure pressing to get rid of the aches. And also, many new mummies like me who are new to breastfeed will tend to have blocked milk ducts. The masseurs will massage and unblock those ducts too. After every massage session, my pumping sessions will be so much easier and smoother because all the blocked milk ducts are being unblocked by Cynthia and Flora! At the end of every session, they would apply ginger cream on my tummy and wrap it traditional bengkung binder. It gives a warm sensation at the tummy area which I feel it helps to get rid of the "coldness" in the tummy and burn the fats. They also gave me 2 packs of the bengkung binder so I can alternate clean and use them. After each binding, I can see that my tummy is firmer and more shaped.

Another amazing point about The Outcall Spa Postnatal Massage is that they have a Thermal Blanket Therapy. I would usually hear about this therapy in those atas massage places and it surprised me that The Outcall Spa would bring the whole Thermal Blanket Therapy experience into my home too. They really bring everything to me which is really convenient and hassle-free for busy mummies like me! The therapy helps to reduce water retention by making the whole body sweat in a warm environment. Its similar to a sauna actually but you get to enjoy it in the comfort of your own home! All I have to do during the therapy is to lie down on the station bed and enjoy the warmth. For better result, you can use to apply serum, slimming cream or body lotion on your body so it'll be better absorbed by your skin during the therapy.

Overall, I really love their massages and customer services. Every single one of them is extremely friendly and passion about their job. Even the guy who delivers and fixes the portable bed, he always smiles and greets every time. On top of it, they are always arrive 15min before the appt time and never once late. They have a couple of promotions going on every now and then, so do try it out and give yourself or spouse a good treat!
